BAU’s Call for Academic Solidarity: “Being a University Student in Gaza”
Bahçeşehir University is hosting an important program within the scope of the “Science Café for Gaza” events launched across Türkiye under the coordination of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). The main theme of the events, to be held between September 1–21, 2026, has been determined as “Being a University Student in Gaza.”
The program aims to directly convey the voices of students and academics who continue their education and academic work under difficult conditions in Gaza to the public in Türkiye. Within the scope of the event, the current state of higher education in Gaza, young people’s expectations for the future, and the possibilities for academic solidarity that can be established between the two countries will be discussed in detail.
Direct Communication and Academic Memory
During the event, live online connections with universities in Gaza are planned to be established, and pre-prepared video messages are planned to be shared in case of possible technical disruptions. These messages, in which Gazan students and academics share their experiences, will also be preserved digitally, forming the memory of academic solidarity.
Believing that universities are not only institutions that produce knowledge, but also structures that preserve hope and strengthen academic solidarity in difficult times, Bahçeşehir University invites all academics and students to this meaningful gathering.
