The Faculty of Pharmacy is happy to announce our partnership with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)-funded Waste2Green Project, approved for funding earlier this year under the EIT Food 2023 – 2025 Impact Funding Framework.

Microalgae are becoming increasingly important as a means to produce biofuels, cosmetics, food supplements and agricultural products. The Waste2Green project aims to expedite the process of microalgal cultivation by deriving algal biomass from agricultural wastewaters, increasing cost-efficiency and minimizing water and fertilizer use in farmlands.

Bahçeşehir University’s contribution, headed by Dr. Alper Devrim Özkan (Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology) will involve the sequencing and biochemical characterization of algal strains, as well as biopesticide and biostimulant activity assays on a broad range of model crops.
