Support from the EU for Bahçeşehir University’s ‘Using Artificial Intelligence in Chip Design’ Project!

Bahçeşehir University was entitled to take part in the chip production process of the European Union (EU) with the project “Using artificial intelligence in chip design using open sources”. Speaking about the chip production project for which the EU allocated 16 million euros, BAU Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department Head Dr. Lecturer Member Fatih Kahraman said, “The project in question has the potential to be a milestone not only for Bahçeşehir University but also for Turkey.”

Bahçeşehir University (BAU) responded to the HORIZON Europe Key Digital Technologies (KDT) 2023 Call, a joint initiative of the European Union, which decided to produce chips, by presenting the project titled RIBL (Remote Innovations in Boolean Logic). The project, which draws attention with its pioneering nature and strategic importance, was entitled to receive support from the EU, and BAU became one of the chip production stakeholders of the European Union. Dr. Lecturer Member Fatih Kahraman stated, “The RIBL project aims to revolutionize chip design by bringing together artificial intelligence-supported design tools in the fields of RISC-V and Open Source Chip Design.” “By combining integrated circuit design and knowledge transfer in semiconductor technologies with artificial intelligence elements, it aims to facilitate the integrated ‘circuit/chip’ design process needed by all sectors. “This open source software tool chain opens the doors to a new era in chip design with artificial intelligence model-supported ‘knowledge transfer’ functions,” he said.

‘A MILESTONE FOR Türkiye’

Emphasizing that the project is also important for Turkey, Kahraman said, “This project stands out as one of the university’s biggest budget and most strategically important achievements in European Union projects. Chip design and production are among the cornerstones of today’s digital revolution, and the project in question has the potential to be a milestone not only for Bahçeşehir University but also for Turkey. “This strategic step makes a great contribution to our country’s goal of gaining a competitive advantage at the international level in the field of chip technologies,” he said.

MASTER IN CHIP DESIGN

Stating that the project aims to be an important stakeholder in Europe’s chip production roadmap, Kahraman said, “As part of the project, Bahçeşehir University plans to contribute to the training of individuals specialized in the sector by organizing specialized master’s and doctoral education programs together with Artech International BVBA. “In addition, Bahçeşehir University’s ‘Digital Microchip Design and Verification’ program is the first master’s program in Turkey that provides education on chip design at an international level.”

16 MILLION EURO BUDGET

Stating that the support provided by the project for chip design education in Turkey will meet an important need in the sector, Kahraman emphasized Turkey’s strong position in this field and said, “This strategic project, more than just a project approval, will strengthen Turkey’s position in the international arena in chip design. “Bahçeşehir University will make a significant contribution to the technological development of the future with its infrastructure, expertise and innovative activities in this field,” he said. BAU Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department Head Dr. Lecturer Member Fatih Kahraman, Dr. Lecturer It was stated that the project, prepared under the leadership of member Binnur Kurt and Suna Akbayır from Artech International BVBA, has a comprehensive cooperation network with a total budget of 16 million Euros.
