The event titled “Publishing in Leading Journals: From Submission to Scopus” was held at BAU South Campus with the participation of Prof. Richard Whatmore.

On May 5–6, 2025, Bahçeşehir University (BAU) hosted one of the leading international figures in academic publishing, Prof. Richard Whatmore. A Professor of Modern History at the University of St Andrews, editor of the journal History of European Ideas, and a member of the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (History and Philosophy), Prof. Whatmore shared valuable insights into the world of academic publishing with participants during a comprehensive two-day program.

The event, held at BAU South Campus, covered in detail a range of topics for researchers aiming to publish academically, including journal selection, preparing strong submissions, peer review processes, and criteria for acceptance into the Scopus index.
Prof. Whatmore also provided valuable insights on open-access publishing, strategies for increasing research visibility, and the qualities that editors and reviewers look for in academic work.
The event took place in an engaging and interactive atmosphere with broad participation, including BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tunç Bozbura, and many academic researchers.

Workshop: “How to establish a Leading International Academic Journal?”

The workshop held on the second day of the event took place in a more focused setting with the participation of university leadership and academic leaders at the faculty level. Among the attendees were BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tunç Bozbura, and faculty deans.

In this special session, Prof. Whatmore shared the key steps to establishing a strong academic journal, processes for developing editorial vision, building international author and reviewer networks, setting ethical and publishing standards, and strategies for increasing visibility in indexes such as Scopus. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session.

This two-day, content-rich program made a significant contribution to Bahçeşehir University’s vision of promoting academic publishing.
