The gathering titled “Same Old Customs in a New Village: Rethinking Science Ethics in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” organized by the Bahçeşehir University Bilim İletişimi Ofisi in collaboration with BAU CLT (Center for Learning and Teaching) as part of the Bilim Kafe events of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), was held on June 17, 2026, at the Old Courtroom of BAU South Campus.

At the event, which aimed to bring scientific knowledge together with society, the effects of artificial intelligence technologies on academic production processes and the ethical responsibilities they entail were addressed from different perspectives. At the Bilim Kafe gathering, held with the participation of academics, researchers, and university staff, the transformative effects of artificial intelligence on scientific research, knowledge production, and higher education were comprehensively evaluated.

The speakers at the event, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Esmer and Assist. Prof. Sezin Eşfer Öndünç, shared with participants how scientific research processes are changing in the age of artificial intelligence and the role of academic integrity and ethical principles in this transformation. The use of artificial intelligence tools in research and education processes, data reliability, academic responsibility, scientific transparency, and ethical boundaries were among the prominent topics of the event.

While the session was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Seda Saraç, participants had the opportunity to share their views and questions on the subject during the question-and-answer session held after the presentations. Throughout the event, it was emphasized that artificial intelligence is not merely a technological innovation but also an important factor transforming the culture of scientific production and research practices.

The event, jointly organized by the Bahçeşehir University Bilim İletişimi Ofisi and BAU CLT, served as an important gathering in terms of strengthening interdisciplinary dialogue within the university and discussing current topics such as artificial intelligence on an academic platform. Participants exchanged views on the fundamental ethical values that the academic world must uphold, alongside the opportunities offered by technological transformation.

The event, held within the scope of the YÖK Bilim Kafe programme, was considered an important step towards bringing scientific knowledge beyond university boundaries and establishing stronger connections with society. Bahçeşehir University will continue to bring scientific topics together with different stakeholders through similar events in the coming period.
